Caring Mums believes that the transition into motherhood can be an exciting yet challenging time. We provide well trained volunteers to be able to walk alongside mothers who may feel in need of additional emotional support. We aim to help create that much needed "village" for our mothers.
Our service supports all mothers including those who are isolated, new immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, single mothers, mothers with mental and physical health issues, family violence survivors or mothers who do not fall into any specific category, but just want someone outside of their inner circle with whom to talk. The program is open to mothers who are not first-time mothers. We currently operate face-to-face in the Cities of Bayside, Boroondara, Glen Eira, Kingston, Port Phillip and Stonnington. We also offer an Extended Reach program run by a virtual platform to all other areas in Victoria.
Referrals can come from mothers themselves or Health Care professionals.
Creating a sense of family for our volunteers is also one of our aims. We provide them with professionally run training and fortnightly group supervision, allowing the sharing of challenges and successes with their mums.
Our parent organisation NCJWA Vic, prides itself on the positive impact Caring Mums makes to new mothers and pregnant women.
