The Society is a not-for-profit community organisation founded in 1963 to encourage an interest in and an enthusiasm for the history of Chelsea and surrounding areas.

The Chelsea & District Historical Society is run by volunteers and welcomes new members at any time.

Members receive a regular newsletter which keeps members up to date with the developments being made by the society. Items of local history and information on upcoming activities, meetings and events are included.

The Chelsea and District Historical Society Inc. was officially formed on December 10th, 1963. We are a member of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria, the South Eastern Historical Association and the Kingston Historical Network.

The Society gratefully acknowledges the support of Kingston Council.

Chelsea: A Beachside Community by Frank McGuire has recently been reprinted due to popular demand. Frank's lively and easy to read narrative is full of fascinating detail and summarises many aspects of local history. Price $10

The Fallen: From Chelsea and Carrum by Margaret Diggerson. Margaret an official historian at the Society scoured the memorials and honour boards for the names of soldiers from the district who fought and died on the distant battlefields of WW1.
