Coast Guard Melbourne (VF12) at Sandringham, is a radio control and coordination centre where volunteers provide assistance to the boating public. VF12 monitors craft in the bays and coastal waters. The not for profit service is provided 365 days per year. (VF12 does not operate a rescue boat)

Vessels in Port Phillip, Western Port and Victorian coastal waters are monitored by volunteers between the ages of 18 to past retirement. Volunteers come with or without experience and are trained in house while working beside qualified radio operators. Use of the radios commences day one.
