The Southern Suburbs Orchid Society was formed in 1992. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month from 7.30pm and feature guest speakers and a flowering competition. Please join us and share a cuppa and chat after the meeting.
Who is the Southern Suburbs Orchid Society Inc?
  • Formed in 1992 by a small group of orchid enthusiasts from the bayside area of South East Melbourne
  • Society meets on the first Wednesday of each month (except January) at the N.G.Wishart Senior Citizens Hall, 964 Nepean Hwy, Moorabbin
  • Night starts at 7.30 p.m. with ‘The Early Session’ for members
  • Main meeting starts at 8.00 p.m.
  • Features an invited guest speaker, talking on advanced orchid culture or demonstrating different aspects or orchid care
  • Flowering competition run at each meeting
  • Presentation of bench winners is the last part of meeting
  • Meeting closed, with members and visitors invited to join in for a cuppa and a chat

  • To encourage interest in orchid growing in our local community
  • To provide an opportunity for members to share social activity
  • To allow members access to information and people who can add to their knowledge of orchid culture

  • To exhibit our efforts for the entertainment of the public and to attract new members
  • To offer orchid enthusiasts a learning experience and an opportunity to mix with others who share the same interest
  • Membership of our society is not restricted in any way
  • Orchid growing is an interest shared by all walks of life, age groups and multicultural backgrounds 
  • As such our membership is open to all interested people
  • Visitors are always welcome to our meetings
  • You do not need to be a member to come along and be part of the festivities 


Opening Hours

Society meets on the first Wednesday evening of each month (except January)
Night starts at 7.30 p.m. with ‘The Early Session’ discussing orchid culture and problems
Main meeting starts at 8.00 p.m and includes an invited guest speaker
Supper after meeting
