Childcare Volunteer Assistant

Long term

Specific Duties:                 

  1. Greet parents and welcome children
  2. Interact positively with and care for children
  3. Comfort and assist children requiring individualised care and attention
  4. Set up and pack up toys and learning activities as required
  5. Assist with children’s activities and learning experiences
  6. Become familiar with the Allergy Plan noticeboard, noting the children in your group who have asthma or anaphylaxis
  7. Supervise children eating food, helping make it a pleasant social experience while ensuring the food provided is in line with the Centre’s ‘no nuts’ policy. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own snack so they can eat with the children.
  8. Maintain a high level of hygiene and safety, providing a good model for children in these areas e.g. cleaning hands before handling food
  9. Wear sunsmart hats in the outdoors area in Terms 1 and 4
  10. Assist with the end of day pack up
  11. Perform other appropriate tasks as directed by staff

Skills Required:                 

  1. Ability to work in a team
  2. Caring attitude
  3. Previous experience in childcare or similar preferred but not essential
  4. Awareness and use of appropriate ‘positive’ language

 Training and Support:

- Orientation to Sandybeach Centre

- When appropriate and available, Sandybeach Centre will provide professional development opportunities to volunteers related to early childhood education, health, safety and first aid.

*All volunteers are required to do a trial day before being offered a position
