Community Visitors Scheme Volunteer - Various languages Russian, Arabic, Greek, Polish, Italian, Sri Lankan, Hindi, Croatian.

Long term

Make a difference by giving an Aged Care resident or a person that lives in their own home the opportunity to converse in their mother tongue.

A number of residents living in Aged Care Facilities or In Home in the Kingston/ Bayside/Glen Eira areas would benefit greatly from a visitor who can speak their language and who understands their culture.

At present, we have recipients waiting for a volunteer who can speak either; Russian, Greek, Italian, Polish, Hindi, Sri Lankan, Croatian and Arabic-Egyptian. Shared culture is invaluable to isolated elderly residents.

The Community Visitors Scheme program aims to provide company and companionship to older people who have been identified as being lonely or socially isolated.

Visits may involve, chatting together, a gentle walk or sharing an activity such as cards, a game, reading or an outing.  Volunteers commit to visiting the same resident for up to 1 hr, with a minimum fortnightly visit for 12 months or more.

As a Volunteer Visitor with CBCHS you will receive ongoing support and training. Your time and friendship can make a huge difference to the life of an aged care resident & help to reduce social isolation in your community.
