About Us

Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS) is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community. These include specialist medical services, dental and allied health, nursing and counselling services, as well as aged care social supports and disability services.

Our purpose is to enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals through innovative, responsive services delivered in partnership with our community.

Community Visitors Scheme

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a Government funded program that matches a volunteer visitor with a lonely or isolated person living in an aged care facility or in their own home.  The Volunteer and resident are matched according to similar interests or background. The visits are regular, either weekly or fortnightly, with the intention of developing an ongoing friendship and social connectedness.

The visits are purely social and can be spent doing activities that both parties enjoy, such as chatting, reading, hobbies, going for a walk or watching TV. A number of our visitors have developed a genuine friendship with the person they visit.

At a time when social isolation can be felt by us all, the challenge can be even greater for those in our community who are most vulnerable. Even if we can’t visit in person, a phone call or video chat can make all the difference.

We ask that potential volunteers consider making the commitment for at least 12 months and that visits occur for one hour once a fortnight, as a minimum (but you can visit more often if you like!).

About You

Would you like to share your interest in sports, gardening, fishing or camping with a lonely gentleman resident? Do you enjoy going for walks, coffee or just chatting?   Volunteering can be an extremely rewarding experience for everyone involved. If you would like to make a real difference in the life of an older person in your community who is experiencing loneliness or social isolation and can spare an hour per fortnight to visit a resident in the Kingston/Bayside area, we would love to hear from you!
