Edithvale / Bonbeach area - Friendly visitor (Community Visitors Scheme) English, Greek or Italian speaking
Friendly visitors are volunteers who are matched with a lonely or isolated resident in an Aged Care Facility to spend time with them providing companionship and community connection. Volunteers might read to the resident or play board/card games. Visits may include taking the resident for a walk, or to a local cafe for a coffee. Some residents are active and like to be taken out, others may just want someone to sit with them and hold their hand.
The Community Visitor Scheme is a government funded program. All volunteers are required to attend an interview, provide 2 referees, and undergo a police check (we pay for this). We ask that volunteer friendly visitors commit to visiting at least once a fortnight (weekly is preferred) for a minimum of 12 months. Training and support is provided every step of the way.
We place friendly visitors in Aged Care Facilities from Carrum Downs to Brighton. We always try to match a visitor with a resident in an Aged Care Facility close to them.
