Melaleuca Garden Program Co-ordinator Volunteer

We are seeking a Garden Program Co-ordinator Volunteer to join Kingston’s Gardens for Wildlife team and help us create a Garden Program at Melaleuca Activity Hub in Clarinda.

Kingston’s Gardens for Wildlife program is a free program that helps residents increase habitat in their gardens; it provides garden assessments, educational resources and opportunities for residents to learn more about native plants and habitat gardening. This role will assist in the expansion of the Gardens for Wildlife program by creating opportunities for local residents to engage in gardening activities and to connect socially whilst learning about native plants, biodiversity and habitat creation in a community setting.  

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Assist the Melaleuca Garden Program Leader in the planning and development of the program
  • Co-ordinate gardening activities for the Melaleuca Garden Program
  • Assist with set up and maintenance of garden tools and Melaleuca Garden Program resources
  • Attend and assist with co-ordination of gardening activities such as working bees and planting days

A minimum of 4 hours per week is requested with a requested minimum commitment of 6 months.

The precise hours and days of volunteering will be negotiated to meet both the availability of the volunteer and the needs of Council.

Ideally, the Melaleuca Garden Program Co-ordinator will work with other volunteers at Melaleuca Activity Hub at least once per fortnight. 

About you

We are looking for someone with the following interests, skills and experience:

An ability to actively listen and clearly communicate to other volunteers, Council staff and community members.  

  • Organisation and time management skills.
  • Knowledge and interest in native plants and habitat gardening is highly desirable.
  • Experience in co-ordinating educational activities, community engagement or gardening events.
  • Knowledge of gardening practices and a passion to share knowledge
