Social Support Group Volunteers

Long term

Time for a positive change? Connect with your community and have fun!

We all know that social interaction is critical for health and wellbeing, but staying connected with others can become more difficult as we get older.  Volunteers can contribute to supporting clients remain connected by assisting staff during both centre and outing based activity & social programs for persons 65 years and older.

Who are we?

Central Bayside Community Health Services (CBCHS) is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community.

The Social Support Groups at CBCHS offer a diverse range of over 25 activities per week, providing the opportunity for people to connect with others in a supportive environment. The groups are great way to make friends, enjoy new experiences and most importantly have fun! This low-cost service is also a great way for carers to get some well-earned respite from their caring duties.

The Social Support Group Volunteer Role . . .

Our SSG Volunteers assist the Group Supervisor with transportation of clients, assisting with morning tea and lunch set up and pack down and well as engaging with our wonderful clients. You can choose to participate in centre-based activities at our Clarinda, Edithvale and Mentone sites, or go on outings. Some of our activities include:

  • Wellness activities including strength training groups, warm water exercise groups and personal training
  • Movie days
  • All day tours
  • Walking groups
  • Coffee groups
  • Culturally specific programs
  • Programs tailored for people experiencing memory loss or cognitive changes (including dementia, intellectual disability and acquired brain injury)

We would also love to hear from volunteers who have hobbies that may be introduced to our program! For example, crafts, chess, card games or music! Groups run Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm. You can choose the activities you would like to be involved in and give as much or as little time as you like.
