Volunteer High School Tutor

Emerge is a specialist family violence service located in Victoria’s Southern Region. The organisation offers a diverse range of accommodation and support to women and women with children experiencing family/domestic violence.
The Volunteer High School Tutor will encourage the student to reach their full potential and guide them towards study practices that will help them excel.
1-2 hrs weekly / Min 12 months
The main responsibilities of this role:
- Review and work together on homework assignments -some students may be performing below their expected academic level
- Work through problems and questions regarding schoolwork
- Assist in the development of reading skills and enjoyment
- Communicate effectively with case workers and volunteer coordinator
- Connect with primary caregiver and keep informed of student’s progress
Knowledge, skills and experience:
- Previous high school tutoring experience with references required
- Patient and understanding approach to students’ abilities and learning styles
- Great speaking and writing skills
- Ability to guide and problem solve high school level maths, science and English
- Aware of Family Violence impacts on women and children and their capacity to engage and retain information
- Understanding of culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- Understanding the privacy and confidentially requirements at Emerge
Tutoring session will take place at the students home with the primary caregiver present or via Zoom. All clients live in the South Eastern Suburbs/ Bayside area but due to the nature of our sector we can not disclose the exact address.
